MARANELLO KART 2013
MARANELLO KART GREAT PROTAGONIST IN KZ2
AT THE 18th WINTER CUP OF LONATO WITH ALL ITS DRIVERS
YANNICK DE BRABANDER WAS THE FASTEST DRIVER IN THE FINAL, STOPPED BY A CRASH WHEN HE WAS RECOVERING POSITION AFTER POSITION. MARCO ZANCHETTA AND MASSIMO DANTE WERE VERY FAST TOO, AS WELL AS LORENZO LAPINA, THE VERITABLE REVELATION OF THE WEEKEND.
Lonato del Garda (Brescia - Italy). Great satisfaction for Maranello Kart at this beginning of season in its first official appointment in Lonato for the 18th Winter Cup, with almost 250 entrants an dthe participation of all the major constructors.
It was a great debut for Maranello Kart, with the Belgian Yannick De Brabander who immediately found himself at his ease on the RS10 chassis of the Italian constructor. His performance was so remarkable that he was one of the major protagonists in KZ2, as well as the other two Maranello Kart drivers Massimo Dante and Marco Zanchetta, always among the fastest and fighting with the top drivers. Another great surprise was represented by the private drivers, such as Lorenzo Lapina, excellent winner of one of the heats and the veritable revelation of the weekend thanks to his great competitiveness. Good performance also for Enrico Bernandotto.
Anyway, the most impressive driver was the 2011 vice-world champion Yannick De Brabander, very fast since qualifying with the overall 4th fastest time just 4 hundredths of a second behind the leader, then overall second after the heats thanks to a win and two third places.
“I'm really satisfied after this first experience with Maranello - said De Brabander after his great performance in qualifying and in the heats - because I found myself immediately at my ease both with the equipment and with the team. The RS10 chassis is really good and was immediately fast. My main goal is, this year, the win in the European Championship and in the World Championship.”
De Brabander started from the front row in the pre-final but, unfortunaly, he got bumped into at the hair-pin bend and, after a spin, was hit by Lapina; so, his race finished at the first lap. His recovery in the final was awesome: he gained position after position from the last rows and, shortly, he closed the gap with the leading group thanks to an impressive streak of fast laps. Then, with seven laps remaining, he was sent off the track after getting hit in the rear once again. That is a real shame becaues he could have battled for the podium. De Brabander, anyway, had the satisfaction to set the fastest lap of the race with 41”548.
Great performance also for Marco Zanchetta, 12th in the Final after a recovery from the last positions of the starting grid: he started from that position because of a crash he got involved in during the pre-final. The same can be said for Massimo Dante, who won one of the second chance heats he had to run after an accident in one of the heats and who achieved a great recovery in the Final. Unfortunately, he, too, got involved in De Brabander's accident.
This is Luca Iannaccone's comment, (Maranello Kart responsible): “We are disappointed because we could not achieve the result we deserved here at the Winter Cup. It was within our reach, we showed it, but, anyway, we are satisfied for the performance we did thanks to our drivers. We are disappointed for De Brabander's accident in the Final but, above all, we are disappointed because the race direction did not make any decision about the crash which involved Dante too. Apart from this episode, we are satisfied for the attitude showed by our drivers, in particular for the one of De Brabander, Zanchetta, Dante and also Lapina, who was the real surprise of the weekend, thanks to his great race-pace. I want to say thank you for their technical cooperation to Stefano Griggio and Win Eyckmans; in particular I want to thank the technical preparer Camil, who assisted De Brabander. Special thanks to TM which gave us excellent engines. The results recorded by our RS10 chassis were excellent: it showed great adaptability in KZ. This year we have great equipment at our disposal and I think that with these drivers we will have great results."
