THE PERFORMANCE OF MARANELLO KART AND STEFANO CUCCO STOPPED AT THE START IN THE WSK FINAL IN FRANCE.
UNLUCKY ENDING FOR MARANELLO KART AND STFANO CUCCO IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE WSK EURO SERIES IN VAL D'ARGENTON. THE ITALIAN DRIVER WAS PUSHED OFF THE TRACK AT THE START OF THE FINAL: HE HAD BEEN ONE OF THE FASTEST UNTIL THE PRE-FINAL
Le Breuil sous Argenton (France). Stefano Cucco is a great fighter, once again perfectly backed by an excellent chassis like the Maranello RS9, which gave the Italian driver the chance to achieve a very good performance also in the second round of the WSK Euro Series, on the demanding French circuit in Val d'Argenton. Unfortunately, the final result was not what Maranello and the driver expected and deserved. Things got a bit complicated when the weather started to get really bad at the beginning of the race; moreover, some unfortunate initial situations did not help at all, even though all these troubles instead of disheartening the Maranello Kart official team made them even more motivated to make a good impression in this important international event.
The weekend had started with great expectations thanks to the fourth best time recorded by Stefano Cucco in the time trials of his group and his admission among the 12 top drivers ready to run for the Superpole. At this point, unfortunately, the first blow arrived: the exclusion of the Italian driver for a 200 gram underweight after recording the overall 6th best time. This occurred also because of the variability of the weather, with an alternation of wet and dry conditions which affected the quantity of the consumable materials of the kart.
It was hard to overcome the difficulties of the first two heats: in the first heat, Cucco ran with slick tyres but the weather got worse immediately after the start; in the second heat, the spark plug wire of his kart came off and this put an end to Cucco's heat. Anyway, from the third heat onward, the Italian driver and the Maranello Team started their great recovery. They achieved three great results (a second and two fourth places) which allowed the driver to qualify for the final phase with the 27th position.
In the Pre-final, on dry track, Cucco managed to recover as far as the 14th place thanks to his good pace and to a series of fast laps despite being stuck in the middle of the tussle. Then, in the Final, the last blow: an accident at the start foiled Cucco's attempt to achieve a good result. Anyway, his overall performance, on this occasion too, was a top one, showing once more, besides the driver's skills, the performing qualities of the Maranello chassis.
This is Stefano Cucco's comment at the end of the race: "It is a shame the way the race ended here in France. We were absolutely fast since the qualifying session: on wet track I recorded the fourth fastest lap which allowed me to take part in the Superpole. Here I achieved the sixth best performance. Unfortunately, a 200 gram underweight prevented me from starting from a better position in the heats. In the first heat, we decided, together with the team, to use slick tyres on a slightly wet asphalt, but the weather conditions did not get any better. In the second heat the spark plug wire got loose and I was forced to retire. From the third heat I started my recovery: I arrived second after leading almost throughout the whole race. Then, under heavy rain, in the fourth heat I placed fourth and, after that, fourth once again on dry asphalt. In the Pre-final I did a good recovery, with rather good lap times. But in the Final I only managed to do the warm-up lap then, at the start, I was bumped into and pushed off the track finishing my race in the gravel. That's a real shame! I hope I will get another chance in the next race of the Euro Series in Muro Leccese."
Next appointment with the WSK Euro Series on 24th June on the La Conca Circuit of Muro Leccese (Italy)
