INTERESTING BEGINNING OF SEASON FOR MARANELLO IN THE FIRST EVENT OF THE YEAR IN LONATO (ITALY) FOR THE WINTER CUP
GHIDELLA WAS A BIT UNLUCKY IN KZ2. GOOD PERFORMANCES RECORDED BY HANSEN IN KF2, WHILE CUCCO UNDERWENT HIS FIRST IMPORTANT TEST.
Lonato del Garda (Brescia- Italy). For the first official appointment of the season, the Maranello Kart Team immediately gathered important confirmations. Some of its top drivers were not very lucky; they did not manage to express at their best and did not achieve what they deserved, but both the team and the drivers got positive feelings and, even more important, the test with the new equipment gave good results: the team is now ready to face the forthcoming international appointments.
in KZ2 Matteo Ghidella managed to reach a remarkable 9th place in one of the heats, but he had some technical troubles in the other two and was obliged to take part in the second-chance heats. Unfortunately, he did not place among the first six and did not gain the right to participate in the final phase. For the Australian Ricky Capo it was a first interesting contact to grow in experience.
In KF2 Andreas Hansen performed well in the qualifying heats as well as the Belgian Dylan Lahaye, while Stefano Cucco paid for his lack of experience in the team, given that he joined it only few days before the event of Lonato. Also the Spanish Jordy Barreramet some technical difficulties and could not express at his best.
In the second-chance heats in KF2 Lahaye was stopped by an accident, while Hansen - it is worth remembering that he placed third in the last CIK-FIA European championship- managed to do an excellent heat and arrived in second after a great recovery. On the other hand, in the pre-final, Hansen was slowed down by an accident while he was recovering and, in the final, he managed to recover as far as the 20th place.
In KF3 the young Finnish Alec Weckstrom and the Swiss Paul Hokfelt ran for Maranello. Weckstrom managed to reach the second-chance heats and missed the final for few seconds. Hokfelt did not pass the qualifying heats.
This is the comment of Luca Iannaccone - Maranello Kart team principal - at the end of the Winter Cup: “Generally speaking, we are rather satisfied. The Winter Cup is a good starting point to understand the quality level of our equipment. The chassis behaved satisfactorily and went very well. From the point of view of the engines, on the other hand, we had some problems in KZ2, but we are going to solve them. The performances were nonetheless very interesting. Regarding the drivers, Cucco tried his new chassis just few days before, so this was a sort of test for him. The performances of the other drivers were spoilt by bad luck and several accidents which did not give us the opportunity to reach good positions in the rankings. We will redeem ourselves in the forthcoming appointments, starting with the WSK Masters Series in schedule next week in La Conca”.
